Michael Lukas (Austrian, b. 1979) is a Vienna-based artist who attended the Fashion School in the Hetzendorf Palace, Vienna, before studying at the Academy of Fine Arts, Vienna. Through the combination of gestural abstraction techniques and his innovative use of white paint in his canvases, Lukas gives his paintings a unique and captivating freshness, lightness and clarity. The directional movement in his pieces often stems from a particular point: alluding to the qualities of inspiration and impulse, expanding and developing from an initial source. Lukas straddles the boundaries of the unstable, finding the perfect equilibrium between volatile and established. His experience in the fashion industry alongside his artistic training gives his work a unique and distinctive quality.
